CHILL OUT BARS ON THE BEACHES OF TENERIFE
Only when you feel the warmth of the sun on your face while there are cool sounds in the air and an even cooler cocktail in your hands, will you be able to shout out “I’m on vacation!!!”.
There have always been plenty of bars backing the beaches of Tenerife, but the last couple of years have seen an increase in beach clubs where you can lounge, eat, drink and be merry in a stylish atmosphere while the island’s best DJs treat your ears.
You can find these stylish beach clubs in many of Tenerife’s resorts. Here are some of our favorites.
Kaluna Beach Club, Costa Adeje
It’s an area of chic loungers and soothing sounds at Kaluna Beach Club, which has its own infinity-edge pool overlooking the harbor of Puerto Colon and La Gomera. Despite the exclusive ambience the prices are not sky-high; cocktails are €6.50, while a plate of steak and chips is €13 – not a bad price to pay to feel like a vacation celebrity.
Papagayo Beach Club, Playa de las Américas
While Kaluna is more late-night hours, Papagayo Beach Club, on the front line of Veronicas, in Las Americas is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night clubbing. Papagayo is a sophisticated chill out bar and is a place to dress up and get excited. The best DJs play there, which means it has some incredible party nights. Prices are a little on the expensive side with a cocktail at €8 and main courses averaging €18, but a giant burger will only set you back €6.50.
Monkey Bar Club, Playa de las Américas
Monkey Beach Club is located above the golden sands (more or less) of Playa de Troya. Considering how close we are to that continent there is a fitting African theme to the decor. During the day it is a great place for lunch and a break from the sun. In the evening it is good for sunset cocktails and enjoying the occasional shows. The place is at its liveliest during the weekend parties in summer, that’s when it gets really crowded. Cocktails are quite reasonable at €6/7, but you have to shell out a bit more for the food. Burgers start at €12.50 and up.
Bahia Beach, Palm Mar
Although more residential than resort, Palm Mar has one of the most relaxed beach clubs on the island. Bahia Beach offers a “get away from it all” and a sunset scene on a mini artificial beach. It’s a very nice set up whether it’s for a tapas lunch, a sunset cocktail or for a fun themed night such as a ‘Tribute to Burlesque’ or ‘reggae and salsa’. Prices are a little more expensive than the resorts with cocktails around 8 €, 5 € tapas and main meals 12 € to 18 €.
Andana Beach Club, Puerto de la Cruz
Andana Beach Club behind Playa Jardin in Puerto de la Cruz is not as popular as its southern competitors and has less charm than the rest. but thanks to them it is probably the most relaxed beach bar of all. During daylight hours it serves a wonderfully creative tapas lunch. It comes back to life on weekends when it fills up with locals. You’ll find some of the same DJs as at the other beach clubs, but, as the patrons are more locals than tourists, the beat can sometimes be more than Latin. Price-wise, both cocktails and food are much cheaper than the other bars; a main course at Andana can be the same price as at the clubs on the southern beaches.
